How to Calculate Supply Cost per Salon Service

A low pack price is not always the lowest operating cost. Compare the usable units in each pack with how many your team normally uses per appointment, then include the costs that appear on your actual order.

Use the same unit before comparing products

Check the pack contents and identify the usable unit: one sheet, one strip, one pair, one bottle or another quantity relevant to your service. Compare like with like; a pack price cannot tell you much if pack counts or product sizes differ.

Calculate an estimated cost per appointment

Start with this formula: delivered pack cost ÷ usable units in the pack × units normally used per service. Use the final amount on your invoice for a real comparison, and apply your business’s own accounting treatment for taxes and expenses.

  • Example only: a hypothetical pack costs ₹450 delivered and contains 100 usable strips.
  • If your normal service uses 2 strips, the estimated strip cost is ₹450 ÷ 100 × 2 = ₹9 per service.
  • If actual use varies by service, calculate a range using your own low and typical usage.

Check what the pack price leaves out

For a fair purchasing comparison, note delivery charges, minimum order requirements, discount conditions and any pack-size differences. Use the order total or invoice rather than assuming a displayed discount is the final amount you will pay.

Pair cost with product fit and consistency

Cost per use is only one decision point. Confirm dimensions, material or product specifications, pack quantity and suitability for your existing workflow. Trial a new product in normal use before moving a whole team to a larger order.

Use your own numbers and revisit them

Record actual quantities used over a representative period and recalculate when service volume, product choice or supplier terms change. The estimate is most useful as a comparison between options, not as a promise of an exact cost for every appointment.
